A Car Being Cleaned The value of a car depreciates fast especially if the paintwork starts fading.  If the elements of weather penetrate under the paintwork, rusting may occur and irreparable damage may result.

The following are tips on how to retain that brand new look of your car.

Bring on the shade

You might want to purchase a storage shelter structure for your car. Of all the elements that destroy the gloss of your vehicle’s paint job, the sun is on top of the list. It produces ultraviolet rays, which combine with the oxygen in the air to cause oxidation.

This reaction causes premature fading of car paint and a chalky appearance. Although the effects of oxidation are reversible, it increases the wear on your car body.

A car storage shelter can reduce chances of oxidation by shielding your vehicle from direct sunlight hence preserving its gloss.

Wash, wash, wash

Not only does the regular washing of a car keep it looking good on the road, but it also protects the paintwork from corrosion by contaminants.  One seemingly harmless but destructive element is bird droppings.  While it is unpleasant to the eye, bird waste also contains uric acid and can cause permanent damage.

Also, things such as grime and mud may contain pollutants that could hasten the process of rusting on your car’s body. Other substances such as tar can cause chipping of paint especially if removed inappropriately. To protect your vehicle, be keen to have it washed regularly.

Dry, dry, dry

As much as washing the car removes pollutants, it adds another risk.  Hard water contains mineral deposits and elements such as calcium and magnesium. When you drive off without drying your vehicle, this water evaporates leaving behind deposits contained in the water.

These elements can form a coating that can destroy your paintwork over time.

Wax in, wax off

Waxing adds further protection for your car from the ultraviolet rays of the sun and roadside pollutants. Regular waxing becomes important if your vehicle is open more often to the harsh elements of the weather. This is one of the most effective ways to protect the lustre of your car’s paintwork.

Body repairs can be expensive; it is always better to prevent damage from happening. The good news is that it does not have to cost a fortune to keep your car looking as good as new.
