For a short vacation, planning and preparing need not be stressful. Keep in mind that when packing for a weekend trip, you should neither bring too much nor too little.

Here are the things you should do before heading out:

Book your accommodation

Before booking a place to stay, decide whether you’ll stay overnight. If your chosen beach location is more than a 4-hour drive, spend the night at a beach house or apartments for short-term visits. This is highly recommended especially if you’re taking the children with you.

Prepare a checklist of things to bring

Make a list of the things you’re planning to bring, such as clothes, shoes, toiletries, or recreational items. Socks, sunscreens, toothbrush, pyjamas, and deodorant are some of the most commonly forgotten items, so make sure they’re on your list. Never underestimate how fast your luggage space will fill up. So, make sure you’re only bringing the essentials.

Go travel-size

Grab some travel-size containers for your toiletries. If you’re bringing skin care products that you can’t get in a nearby shop, for example, it’s best to place them in small containers. To free up more space, you can just buy simple items like soap and toothpaste from a convenience store near the beach house. You can check online if there’s a shop close to your preferred accommodation apartment.

Plan what outfits to wear ahead of time

Another effective way to avoid over-packing is by planning your outfits ahead. A visit to the beach means bringing swimwear. If you’re unsure of the weather, bring versatile items for your change of clothes. If it gets chilly at night, a cardigan or a light jacket will not look off when you’re by the beach. Bring some shirts and shorts as well. As much as possible, pack clothing items that are light, but you can get away with re-wearing.
