Shootings In Military Based Shake Sense Of SecurityTerohan Nula September 23, 2013 0 COMMENTS
Two attacks in less than four years at American military bases have simply shaken the sense of security that otherwise is integral to the area. After all, the military bases house uniformed members of the US military who are all trained and battle-tested. Added to that is the fact that armed guards stand at the gates and people need IDs to pass through electronic barriers.
And yet despite all the tight security measures, the frequency with which criminals have been able to cross the barriers is alarming.
Colonel Kathy Platoni, a reservist said that the whole thought of the US military bases that embody world-class security coming under attack is ‘earth-shattering’.
In light of the recent Washington Navy Yard attack, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has ordered that the Pentagon must review the security at all US defense installations throughout the world. Hagel vowed on Wednesday that they would find all the security lapses and ‘plug the gaps’.
