Many couples name their little bundles of joy after popular Hollywood actors, comic superheroes, or movie characters. This year, however, a new name arises in the statistics, pushing out the “Twilight” names of Isabella and Jacob out of the trend.
The famous “Game of Thrones” series gave way to a new name that a significant number of babies now share. “Arya” one of the Stark children, and perceived to be one of the series’ most popular characters of George R.R. Martin’s novels, is now one of the fastest rising names for baby girls in the U.S.
According to The Social Security Administration’s 2012 update, the name rose in rankings between 2011 and 2012, jumping 298 spots from its previous place. Between the first and second seasons of the show, the name “Arya” jumped from #711 to #413. While the names “Sophia” and “Emma” remain at the top of the list, the name “Arya” proves to be unique enough to take its own leap in the list and become the namesake of many babies in the U.S.
