boy with skateboardSkateboarding has grown popular over the years. Many skateboard enthusiasts know the names Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Paul Rodriguez a.k.a. P-Rod, and many others, but not everyone wants to be a superstar with their own shoe line or video game. Some skateboarders only want to get on their boards and ride them on the street.

Many skateboarders have to deal with dogs, police, and neighborhood complaints whenever they want to ride. While not all neighborhoods have a skate park, the good news is you can enjoy your board by building your own mini park. Here is some advice on how to do it:

Build in your backyard

Build your park where you live, particularly a land you own. You may use your backyard if you have at least 200 square feet of space. Decide on where to build your park with your skateboarding friends. If you can get someone’s permission to build on their property, be sure they know what the park is for to avoid future problems.

Pool some money

You and your friends can start a collection. It’s a good idea to open a savings account for this project. Building a mini skateboard park shouldn’t cost too much. You’ll need some tools, which you can borrow if you don’t own them. Then you’ll need some concrete, wood, steel for reinforcement and support, and water. You may as well buy a professionally crafted skateboard grinding rail to be safe, too.

If you think you don’t have the skills to do manual work, you may want to contact a professional to help you build the skateboard park. Contribute to the design process, so you will be sure to get the park you want.

Be sure it’s legal

Even if you own the land, local laws may thwart your plans. Make sure it’s legal. Ask the authorities regarding zoning and other laws that apply. It’s also good sense to approach your neighbors to ask them for permission, so they don’t end up complaining to the homeowner’s association.

One thing people worry about when someone builds a private skateboard park is the growing number of people visiting. You and your friends should discuss this matter. Skateboarding is an inclusive activity, but you should know how to handle the situation if a crowd begins to form at your mini park.

A private, mini skateboard park is a safe way to practice your moves. It’s also great for teaching your kids how to use a board. Build your own park and you’ll never have problems looking for a place to ride.
