American Idol, which is the television’s champion for nearly a decade, is not the most popular competition on air this season.
The Voice and Dancing With the Stars had larger viewer ratings than Idol last week. American Idol has been the most popular competition show in primetime television for nine years and now has lost that perch this season.
According to Nielsen, The Voice had 14.2 million viewers last Monday and 12.8 million on Tuesday. It is popular among the 19- to 49-year-old viewers that NBC most actively seeks. The shows ranked No. 1 and 3 on that measurement last week.
American Idol, on the other hand, had 12.5 million viewers on Wednesday and 11.4 million on Thursday.
So far, the most popular television this season is CBS’ NCIS. The series led with 17.3 million viewers.
The CBS network won the week in primetime ratings with an average of 8.7 million viewers. ABC came second with 6.4 million viewers and Fox on the third place with 6.1 million viewers.
